I remember the financial, emotional, and total commitment to organized tournament sports in my community when I was a young teacher. I'm thankful that my own kids were very young when I saw the effects on my middle school students. We kept the kids out of anything above the normal seasonal city leagues. We didn't have the desire--or the funds--to maintain the bougie tournament team luxury.
